Outward Bound Singapore
I never felt that I would be so emotionally attached to this course, cause I've been through a gazillion camps but I never thought that I would feel this way once I left OBS. Well first things first, I would like to thank COOK! for making this experience worthwhile. And of course Arfan, the most gentle and caring instructor you can ever get, who is getting married~~~~~~~
Day 1I woke up surprisingly early, considering how I always wake up late. Headed for school and waited for my darling Huishi and Zhixin. Left for the Punggol jetty and had a briefing there. And did you know, the Daniel G. guy is like Fatin's cousin's husband haha how cool is that. Anyway after a short introduction on OBS, our instructors were introduced to us. So when Cook first met Arfan, he was a really soft and quiet guy. He told us to leave our bags where they were, and brought us to a quiet place. Gathering us in a circle, he told us a story. After he completed his story, Arfan said "I'll leave the best story for the last day." I guess that statement got us excited and we were really really eager to find out what it was about. Reached the campsite and did lots of admin stuff and soon it was lunch! A whole box of food were given to us and we had to sort it out ourselves but it was kinda fun, exploring the kind of food we were going to eat for the next 4 days. Aftermath we did belaying, which was like super duper exciting. But before that we had to do this small activity by leaning on a partner's back and getting up by pushing against each other's back. I guess this activity was meant to teach us that we have to trust our watch mates because they'll be relying on you as well.
We learnt how to pitch our tents and cook our own dinner. I guess it was a really cool experience for me because I've never pitched a tent in my whole life so it was really fun connecting the stuff here and there hehe. Thanks Abbi and Nicole for cooking dinner for us. Poor Cherie and Nicole, scrubbing pots and pans while we were doing idk what. I feel sooooooo sorry >< After that we joined the other watches and packed our things for the expeditions for the next couple of days. Then we had fire drill and lights out!
Day 2
It was the day we learnt how to kayak! Ah okay but before learning how to kayak we did some rock climbing in the morning. Belaying was super fun but I guess it all a matter of trust :) When it was my turn to climb on, honestly, I was really really afraid that I wasn't going to make it to the top. I did stumble a little here and there, but with the help of Nicole and the guys, I managed to reach the top haha :D After lunch we packed a little more before starting our kayaking lessons omg gah so fun ^^ We got pulled down to the sea with our shoes horribly stuck in mud/sand and not being able to pull them out :/ HAHA And Arfan started splashing water at us O_O After that we learned the movements of which how to paddle and stuff. Soon after we practiced capsizing and Cherie and I were on the same kayak haha and I was super kanchiong xD After everyone was ready Alpha headed out to the sea for Camp 3! :) Camp 3 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though we couldn't bathe. Powder bathe was equally refreshing hahaha. After dinner we had a debrief session for the next day and it was lights off!
Day 3
Woke up super dupah early and set off while eating some rubbish breakfast feeding people here and there and loading our bags onto the boat xD Set off in the same kayak as Ler Shin and ended up sweeping everyone up with her hahah but changed kayaks after a while. Lunch was amazing omg soooo fun everyone just rafted together and ate in the middle of nowhere :D Continued kayaking and kayaking for about 2 more hours when we finally saw land. The feeling is just like indescribable ah I just felt like rolling on the floor. Well we were all super exhausted after the long day so we washed up, had dinner and prepared for the next day and went off to sleep :)
Day 4
Celebratory dinner day! I doubt I'll ever forget this day. It's definitely much more than a battle against the rain. In fact, it was so much more like a mind game. We set off at around 9am, trekking here and there with heavy tent bags, jerricans and food. I really thought we were all going to just die and die. But encouragement really keeps one going. So trekking with Huishi and Ler Shin at the back was really fun, pushing here and there ahaha. Then we were brought to this super beautiful summit and had fun playing with echos :) When it rained on our way back, everyone went all silent and I guess everyone felt worn out. I kinda just kept walking and walking, thinking about the rain and our destination and when we finally got to Camp 2 everyone literally plopped onto the floor. It was such a victory moment for all of us I believe. After regaining our composure we had to wash up, but we were locked out of our store hahaha. Arfan came to the rescue and flew all the way back to Camp 1 to fetch our key :D AWWW SO NICE RIGHT. Yeap and meanwhile Atika and I had loads of fun splashing water at each other while washing the ponchos hahaha. During our celebratory dinner we cooked amazing :D HAHAH Arfan tested our food but refused the vegetable cause he can't digest them xDDD So we ate a lot and talked a lot as well. When it was lights off, Azfar, Atika, Cherie, Ler Shin and I stayed up to write this superrrrrr cool story just for Arfan just like how he tells us stories :D
Day 5
Man, I really hate goodbyes ): So the morning started of just fine, our last time unpitching a tent at Pula Ubin ): We had our breakfast by the jetty, Arfan brought us to see the sunrise and we had our sharing session :) Then everyone went hectic and crazy searching for missing items hahaha so cute. Waited for Arfan and in the meantime we ate :D When Arfan came we had our last sharing session and I thought I was going to CRY ): Pestered Arfan like maddddddddddd before we finally heard the story about Ah Seng. HAHA I really really almost cried towards the end. Then we presented our story to him and I also cried *weak ttm* ): Final farewell with Arfan just like that ): Then we lugged our bags to the assembly point and we were sent off back to mainland.
I mean, this whole account could mean anything to anyone, but it means a lot to me. For the experiences are really genuine and unforgettable. The pain and joy, laughter and tears that we went through as a watch will always remain in my heart. Cook I love you :)
